Protégé Labor was founded in 1983 in Winston-Salem, N.C. Since the very start, we’ve been committed to providing superior skilled and semi-skilled labor to commercial and industrial contractors. Due to demand since 2021, we’ve began providing our services to Light Industrial customers. We value our reputation for integrity, and work tirelessly to ensure that our customers and employees are treated with honesty and respect.

The Protégé Labor Leadership Team

Rena Smith, President and CEO

Rena has been part of the Protege Labor team since 2005. She became the company’s president and CEO in 2014. She holds a bachelor’s degree in Accounting from The University of North Carolina at Greensboro Bryan School of Business.

Rena actively promotes careers in the construction industry by supporting community events and participating in industry organizations.

Corey Smith, Field Operations

Part of the Protege team since 2013, Corey wears several hats. He coordinates the needs of our customers to ensure proper placements are made. He also maintains support for our employees – ensuring that our customers get their needs met. He coordinates with our employees to ensure our workforce remains operating at the high standard we expect – all while overseeing our recruitment efforts to ensure safety and quality for all our customers.
